Couldn't help but smile when I read your mail..... sounds painful to me unless it is just my sense of humour. What ever you do, it sounds like the Lithium grease is definately the only option ;-)

Hi Pertti,
I had the same problem with my previous EQ-5 mount. I replaced the
old Synta glue with a smooth white lithium grease. I did it one axis
at a time just to evaluate the result. The RA axis with lithium
grease was very smooth at -24C. The DEC axis so stiff I was afraid to
break my knob when trying to move it.
