I've build my setup by modifing the Canon remote, and modifing my
JMI focuser hand set with micro relays driven by the serial port
on the laptop attached to the scope.
I've tied the whole shebang up in a little program with camera
settings, focus, and Long (>30 sec) exposure controls. The program
can capture, preview, focus, change settings. The application grabs
images from the 10d, and uploads to where ever I want (wireless
network shared drive whereever). I run the remote laptop from my
desk using PCanywhere. I do however; disconnect the focuser after
I've satisfied myself to the focus. (one less cable to snag)
