Dennis, while the Ranger is a nice scope for certainl purposes, I
would forego it fo its cousin the Pronto for the 2" focuser. The 1.25"
focuser of the ranger will be limiting both visually and
photographically, as you won't be able to really take advantage of the
wide-field capabilities of the scope.

70mm is indeed plenty of aperture for doing deep sky work, and the
LX200 will prove to be a good platform for piggybacking on.

I wish I could provide info on alternative scopes, but I have a Pronto
on my 8" LX200. If you'd like to see examples of photographic results
from the pronto, let me know.
