Michael,

If the images that you're trying to stack in IRIS contain a
significant amount of movement between them, and especially if this
movement is random, you'll more than likely have problems. In the
single star alignment method, for example, the area around the star
you select to register must contain the star in the next frame. It
then becomes a fine line between enlarging the box (and increasing
the chance of it selecting the wrong star), and making it too small,
in which case it won't find the next star. While IRIS is performing
the registration, you can see its progress, so you'll be able to see
what image(s) was not aligned properly. Try moving that image to a
different location within the series, ideally placing it after
another that has the selected star in a similar location. I love
IRIS (and its presently all I use), but there are other programs
available that have more sophisticated registration methods and are
more forgiving. Good luck with your photos!

Sean
