Re: [NikonCoolPix] RE: 5400 manual focus

Well, it was a rhetorical question. I've always felt like the manual focus was a flaw in the camera design. It's what I always look for in other digital cameras -- a really useable manual focus. I don't miss it so much any more, though, I can usually get it to auto-focus on what I want with a little effort.

  David,

Not sure what you're asking, can you rephrase?

It's not much of a "feature", is it?

    David,

Thanks for pointing that out...I've done it so many times I forgot you
have to hold the button while turning the dial. So, if the 5000 is that
similar to the 995...it only stands to reason that he 5400 might be very
    similar.

On the CP5000 you have to hold the AF button while turning the dial.

      G'day folks,
My new Coolpix 5400 is great but I can't access
manual focus in the P, S, A and M modes. The camera continues to
cycle through the Auto, Infinity, Macro and Timer modes when I press
the AF button in the P, S, A and M modes.
Do you have any ideas on the subject? Have I missed something in the
manual? I've reset defaults, turned the camera off and removed
      the battery to no effect.
The way I read the manual is that I should have manual focus in all
modes except in full auto and scene modes. Any thoughts on the
      subject are appreciated.
