On the 5000 the battery door is on the base of the camera and is hinged
at one end. To fit the external battery pack, the internal battery is
removed, the battery door is left hinged open, and it then fits in a
recess in the external battery pack housing.

The cover over the electrical contacts is removed in the same way as you
describe for the 5700, and is promptly lost.
