I don't think that any special thumbnail file is needed to view
copied files, but if you've modified the original files, it will
only work under special circumstances. The files need to be in a
particular format. You can do it with the NikonView software, but
not easily. If you're going to build slideshows all the time, you
may be better off with something like the TVWriter that others have
mentioned rather than going through the extra steps of trying to
coerce NV into doing it.
