I don't have a 775 (I have an 880), but a lot of the concepts are
the same.

If you want to capture the moving subject but with some blur
(especially with the background), move your camera with the
subject. If you want to freeze the action, you'll have to have the
fastest shutter speed you can get away with; this probably means a
larger aperture (smaller F number). If you need faster still,
increase the ISO number (and risk adding more noise).

For many situations, it's probably better to just turn off the
flash, particularly in a performance -- you'll just irritate
everyone, and it won't do any good beyond a few feet anyway. If
there's not enough light, you'll not be able to hold the camera
steady enough, and your pics will become blurry. (They may look OK
in the LCD, but if you zoom in while viewing in the LCD, you can
probably see blurring or camera shake.) So, actually, the same
recommendations for fast action above apply here: use larger
aperture, and you may have to go to higher ISO settings.
I made a small web page summarizing some of these kinds of things
here:

Good luck!
