Bill,

I shot a wedding last year with my Coolpix 995. The photographer was a
no-show, he did show up for the reception, so I was asked to fill in at the
last moment. The pictures turned out great...the bride and groom were
thrilled and the guy at the local photo lab couldn't believe they began as
digital images!

 - You probably don't have time, but an external flash would be highly
recommended. The built-in flash will reduce your battery life significantly
and doesn't have much power. It's not always easy to get close, and if you
want candid shots getting close can often make your subject aware of your
presence ruining the surprise.

 - Why aperture priority? If you're using flash, the shutter is typically a
fixed speed to sync with the flash. If you set the camera to aperture
priority, now you're putting a lot of faith in the flash to control your
lighting.

 - Definitely get a spare battery! Yes, another spare...even if it's a
disposable. Even with an external flash, I used three batteries for that
wedding.

I typically use shoot at 2048x1536 at Fine resolution...this allows for
8x10 prints.

If you would like to see some of the wedding shots, I can post them to my
web site.

Subject: [NikonCoolPix] 995 Crash Course Help Wanted

Hello all!

I'm a newbie 995 owner and my stepson's wedding is Saturday. They
have a professional photographer but I want to make a bunch of candid
shots, probably mostly inside. Thinking the following settings for
indoor snapshots may be a good start but would appreciate experienced
inputs:

Aperture priority (P) at f3.7
Fill flash on
SXGA/Fine (200 pictures)

1. Does this sound like a good start? Suggestions welcomed.

2. Should I go to 3:2/Fine for 4X6 prints? (90 pictures)

3. How far will the flash work? (10-12' max I believe)

4. Any idea how many pictures a fully charged battery is good for
with flash? I do have one spare.

5. What else did I miss?

Thanks in advance!

Bill
