[NikonCoolPix] Re: Image editing software - Which?

Everyone had great comments. I use both PhotoShop Elements 2.0 and
Paint Shop Pro because each does things a bit differently, and I
like both for slightly different reasons. Probably 90% of the
features overlap, so you could get by with either one of the
packages.

I did recently buy that book that is supposed to upgrade PE to the
additional features, but I have not gotten that far with it. It
seems very hard-core, and I'll need more time than I have right now!

If you forced me to pick just one, I'd probably have to go with
Paint Shop Pro. It seems slightly easier to use; things make more
sense to me, and some of its features are valuable. (For Roman, I'm
not saying that PE 2 is bad or anything of the sort! ;-) I look
forward to trying those enhancements...)

The panoramic support is better. I can't remember why. I just
remember it being a big improvement to the panoramas. Seems like
some minor features were added, but it was not a night-and-day
difference between the two.

I have scanned some slides with my Epson Perfection 1650. They are
not as high-res as I would have hoped, but I'm thinking that the
slides themselves may not be all that high res. Also, I have had a
hard time trying to adjust for the aged colors. And then there are
the slides that are damaged from mold, but that's another story....

I would be interested in knowing how to find out the optimum
resolution to scan. No, not the usual "300dpi is for printing..."
but more like, "because of the hardware, 300 matches the stepping
motor, while 500 will cause the scanner to interpolate pixels..." so
that I can try to be sure that it's the original photo that's low
res and not just the scanner's output being interpolated.
