I doubt very much that it would be viewfinder gears, more like the main lens mechanism is now damaged
due to the fall, it may be just a slipped gear but if one of the slide pins are gone within the zoom then
it is quite a tricky task

I would agree though, if you are handy it is worth the attempt!!

If it needs a new lens mechanism it is not worth repairing as they cost as much as the camera is worth!!!

  It's probably the viewfinder optics that have come loose. are you
  handy with small tools? Know someone who is? Then you might
