Nikon's WC-E63 is worth every penny. I have used the early WC-E24 and it is just horrible compared to the WC-E63. The WC-E68 (the one that is made for the CP 5000) is also quite good, but not as wide as the E-63 on a 990, plus the E68 doesn't have filter threads, while the E63 does (72mm.)
I have not tried any other wide angle lenses, but can't imagine anything being better than the WC-E63. Some might be wider, but distortion, vignetting, soft corner/edges must be some of the cons.
Just my 2 cents worth ....

Subject: [NikonCoolPix] Wide Angle Aux Lenses
I have a CP-950, and need a wide angle Aux lens. How do the
aftermarket lenses compare to the WC-E63? Was hoping to spend a
little less that the ~$120 street price of the 63 but don't want to
waste money on junk.
