When I was playing with various modes right when I got the camera I
used "HIGH" quality (TIFF) format. I suppose if the goal is 8x10 or
larger it's needed but the "FINE" mode has been working very well.
I've printed a few 4x6 on the high-end HP paper using one of the new
HP printers and it looks as good as a photo taken at the same time
with a 35mm point and shoot. "HIGH" mode slowed the camera down
about 4x from its already-slow capture speed. I'm not interested in
waiting that long between shots. I used "FINE" all weekend and it
worked well. I missed about 5 shots that I recall because of the
slow cycle time of the camera wrt 35mm with a motor drive, but I
adjusted my routine to accomodate it. I'm seriously considering a D1
or D100 and using this as a backup.
