Roberta;
All of Helen's advice here is good. Photosuite 4 has an
excellent stitching feature. It will even smooth out or
even out slight differences in exposure as one might get in
the sky. But using the same exposure for all images is
important. Also, do not use a polarizing filter. Photoshop
also has a very good stitching feature. The stitching is
done by comparing like areas in adjacent images. There are
no embedded lines necessary. I have used a stitching
program that came with the software for Canon and it did a
lousy job.
It is also important that the camera is horizontal. A
tripod with a level bubble will help in that set up. If you
don't happen to have a tripod with you, support the camera
on something that will assist you in attaining a level
position. Rotate the camera about a point that is in line
with the lens. Many years ago, and maybe still, Nikon made
a panorama head for SLR cameras to attach to a tripod. It
has the bubble level and setting for snap stopping in
rotation for various length lenses, 28mm, 35mm, 50mm etc.
It did not provide for a 30 percent overlap that is
recommended but rather about 10%. Yet it still provided the
desired results. But since the computer is doing the
stitching, give yourself 25-30% overlap so the program has
more to compare.
With the digital film you are not out anything to try it.
With some practice you will be easily making great panorama
photos.
Same procedures are best for film camera. Scanning the
images will return the same digital images that the
stitching programs can use to put together.
I have put two images in album titled Simon on the Nikon
CoolPix Group. The night time shot was done on the spur of
the moment and consists of 2 images. The lake view is made
up of 3 images. I wish the full size images could be
shared.
Lots of luck,
Chuck
