For those with the urge for new monitoring twists....

Discovery Channel had a segment tonight about a computer program
called "Stumbler" that intercepts and logs wireless lans.

Seems there are a couple of hobbyists out in Alberta who get their
kicks by driving around with a laptop and a wireless lan unit in
their car.....logging wireless systems! The thing was gps-integrated
so you got an on-screen map of your locale and all the systems
logged, with signal strength etc. The guy was musing about his next
vacation being a coast-to-coast monitoring expedition.

The feature noted that many people don't activate the security
features in the wireless units (which aren't that great to begin
with, they claimed), and there is tremendous potential to hack in to
peoples' computer systems as a result.

Personally I'll stick to trunker and atcs (and ethernet, for that
matter), but I guess tastes vary.

I wouldn't necessarily call it "new" - wardriving has been around for
a while, but it is starting to get some attention in the mainstream
computer world, probably because WAN administrators are finally
clueing in. Check out http://www.wardriving.com/, which has been
running since April 2001.

Do you know if and when it'll be repeated?

I did not read all the posts so this may have been covered. The 2026
is a double conversion radio the 2005 and BC895 are triple
conversion. The front end is probably overloaded. In most locations
800 MHz is jammed so that may be it.

Just a brief addendum to this thread:
My BC780XLT was experiencing desense & spurious responses on all except
purely local 800 mhz transmissions. I was able to correlate the interference
with local cell & paging transmitters.
Solution: A sharp bandpass filter (surplus cell interdigital comb filter - 8
tuning adjustments) solved the problem completely. The filter had to be
retuned to pass the trunking frequencies of interest - a matter of just a few
minutes on the bench.
To get hold of one like this, try dealers of used 800 mhz equipment.

I know this is a little off topic but I do know that
this question could be answered fairly quickly in this
group.

I have a light bar assembly that consist of some amber
rotators as well as some white rotators. Would it be
illigal to activate a white rotators?

I read throught the Ontario Highway Act and couldn't
find anything about white rotators. As a matter of
fact, I couldn't find anything on amber rotators
neither.

I know police and ambulance use white. I have seen
few tow trucks around with white.

Greg
