Just saw an Article in The Times hear in Fort Erie that the Region is going ahead and taking over the dispatching from Hamilton dispatch center for the ambulances in the Niagara Region. They are going to put the contract up for bids in the spring and then pick one of the bidders, the bidder who wins will have a contract for two years to prove that they can do a do a better job than Hamilton dispatch center.

Steve. I saw something on CH about this. People in Niagara were
complaining about the lack of knowledge (sp?) about Niagara in
general and it cut into responce times, i.e. not knowing the streets,
areas shortcuts etc.
People there feel, probably rightly so that they should have their
own call centre, anyways the areas the CACC's service are huge,
Hamilton if anything should have been paired with Halton and let
Niagara have their own CACC.

Yea Eric, I saw the same thing, just wondering who will get the contract and
what frequencies they will be using, It should be interesting. But as you
probably no by listening to the dispatch center in Hamilton they really were
having a hard time dispatching ambulances with the radio system they have.

Steve: Some company that is close in with the present Tory Gov't will
probably get it I guess, patronage.
The dispatch system seems to be ok if you are in Hamilton. I think
that the MOH is soon moving all the ambulance transmissions over to
the Provincial system soon so there is no need to change frequencies
and such, it is all planned out.

That's pretty sad, considering they just moved dispatch from Niagara
something like 5 years ago.
The old Niagara CACC next to the Hotel Dieu hospital is still there, the
only thing not there is the computers.all the radio controls, bell
lines, 911 equipment, etc. is still there. But, knowing the region's
government, they will build a totally new CACC.

Chris,
Do you know if the rest of the LFD freq's are PL? I get too much interference on my VX-5 to listen to them.

I'm guessing Tac 3 & 4 likely use 118.8 as well. I'll punch it in and see.

Is anyone familiar with this model? A buddy offered me one for nothing so the price is right but I don't want it if I'm going to be able to monitor myself ;)
I've Googled myself dizzy and all I can tell is that it is about a four year old model. Is that too old for it to be digital and relatively secure?
Thanks,
J.

Four years is not to old for digital. That phone does have call
display on the handset. Scan the 900 Mhz band when you get it. Pick
up the land line if your call is sensitive or private.
