I'm not sure what you mean by what zone. If you're were I was when i
was listening. For the last two nights I was in Scarb (41/42 Div) And
all night the channel was quiet. Only once in a while I would pick
plains cloths talking to each other. But no radio calls.

They use AEGIS with full-time encryption. They are going to be making
the switch to ProVoice within the next year or two, from what I've
heard.

Here's the official word from Industry Canada:
You do not get a TAC. A TAC is type acceptance for the radio itself.
You need a Digital Scanner Permit.
So, basically, radio world doesn't know what they are talking about when
they say you need a TAC to buy the radio.

Thats what I'm thinking too.... The reason I'm trying to find some info is
because I bought an AEGIS equipped portable from ebay.... Programmed it up
fo the London system... Works great for the analog talkgroups, but when
the PD are talking.... silence. I can hear the speaker unmute but nothing
comes thru.

Well,
I think that there are 4 zones, N.S.E.W. If you have your scanner setup
to the control channel for the west zone, you wont get some divisions
from the east. I could be wrong, but this is what I think might be
going on. I have all the control channels set in to my scanner, but it
prefers to use the first one, not necessarily the strongest channel.
I don't know if that helps.

Further to Mikes msg.........
The TAC (Technical Acceptance Certificate) means that it is a
certified radio device for use in Canada. Just like the FCC number
on all US sold radio devices. From that approval number, you can
tell the manufacturer, the emmission (if it can Tx ie. 16K0F3EJN),
the power, number of channels etc. It is issued once a radio device
is tested and certified by either a certified lab or IC itself.
PS Great group! Very informative and entertaining!

Make sure you program in site 003 as listed on trunkedradio.net. You
won't always hear them on the other sites.

I have a couple of questions about terms used by the TPS.
What is an LOI? (I assume it is something of information)
What is a CM UNIT?
What is special about a highway breath unit?
What is a scout car, as opposed to any other type of car?
I am really good about figuring most abbreviations out, but these
have stumped me for some time.
Thanks

I think I figured it out, they have closed the system. Meaning that a
division can only be heard on a specific zone. I too use to receive 3x
divisions on the south and west zone and can now only hear them on the
north. A couple of days ago they switched to 3HQ for a short time for
system maintenance and possibly this is what they did.
I may be totally wrong, so any confirmation/correction to this would be
good.

I posted a reply earlier this morning but it must have got lost in the
weather.....
To listen to 41 or 42 division reliably, you must be monitoring the east
zone a.k.a. site 003 on trunkedradio.net. You will only hear 41 or 42 on
one of the other sites if someone on that site has their radio on the 41 or
42 division channel.

I believe a "highway breath unit" is exactly what it sounds like -- they
have equipment to conduct a breath test on a suspected drunk driver. A
"scout car" is just a regular patrol car. I'm guessing on "LOI" but I think
it's something like List Of Incidents since it is usually a history of past
calls to a location plus other information.

Chris you might be right. I Sunday night I called TPS for my work.
RE: Stolen auto recovered. A 42 div car responded. I was ease-
dropping on the officers talking to their dispatcher. At one point
other units were advising that the dispatch radio was very static. I
do recall up to that point I was listening to 41/42 on my scanner,
maybe they did shut it down for repair. Anyways I'm back in tonight.
I'll let you know how things turn out. Thanks for your help.

There’s lots of EDACS/AEGIS smart people on there that can tell you if you have it properly programmed. I guess the best fail-safe way to find out if they are encrypted or not is to just try! ☺

Or $24.95 SALE $19.95 with a Commercial Copy of the Frequency Logger
Software.
I am going to be buying the BC780xlt scanner next week and I am
looking for the best computer control scanner software for the
radio. I came across this program on the internet and was wondering
if any one is using this program. I'm looking for a program that
will alow me to program frequency searches so I can leave it running
while I'm away and it will log the frequencies into a file for me so
I don't have to stay beside the scanner and computer and manually do
it, also it controls all the other functions of the bc780xlt scanner
radio. Is there any other program in this catagory that will do all
the things this program will do or are there better scanner control
programs out there for the bc780xlt that I'm not aware of.
Steve

Steve,
I heard that some of their S/W stuff was crap, but don't take
my word...best to check out somebody who's used it.

Highway Breath Unit is more than likely a Breath Tech, used for roadside breathalyzer's in determing a 253 or not.

Thanks
Chris

Ok Dave, I'll wait and see if some one that is using these programs sends me
an e-mail, I don't know of anyone that has bought these programs.
