Marc: I agree. It should be essential to have a weather radio. It is
too bad that EC cuts services and doesnt improve them. The infoon
the radios used to be on par with the US now it is way behind

Geeze Eric, did you have to include Marc's whole message when you replied?

You guys would be better off discussing this on the weather related mailing lists such as Canwarn and wx-talk then here. Several EC officials monitor those lists.

I would agree that messages should be trimmed. However, since the
alert system is built into one of my scanners, I feel it to be
relevant to scanning. And besides, government rhetoric is something
I no longer listen too.

I recently programmed the Brantford PS new EDACS frequencies into my
245 and I am unable to get any talk groups to come up. It tracks
okay, but no talk groups. I understand they are using ProVoice, but I
wish to monitor the talk groups. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Is 154.070 a valid frequency to monitor? I used to hear different
fire services contacting one another. Would they now be in the 800's?
I looked up Ministry of Public Safety and Security in TAFL with no
luck.

Yes, we still utilize 154.070. It's in our backup analog radio and in our
trunked system. Depending on where you are, you still hear radio checks on
Sunday's in the GTA (Mississauga calling Barrie) and the Ontario Fire College
does daily checks with Barrie Fire.

It has been setup that Toronto Fire would patch one of their talkgroups to
the OFM channel and we would do the same here in Vaughan if we were ever
running a large call together (which is rare - fire departments tend to not
work together that way).

That's just silly since both are on 800 MHz and there are frequencies
available for mutual aid. Mississauga and Etobicoke (now Toronto) always
respond to calls on the 401 together and these used to be patched on
154.070. Now they don't even bother. One department will call their
dispatcher who phones the other department's dispatcher who tells the trucks
that the call was cleared 15 minutes ago. Unbelievable!

  Dear Sir,
Canadian equipment certification is required. All radio equipment must comply with Canadian procedures and technical standards before authorization is given to sell the apparatus in Canada.
The procedure to apply for radio equipment certification is RSP-100. The latest version of RSP-100 is available at: http://strategis.ic.gc.ca/SSG/sf01130e.html

According to the IC Website at
http://spectrum.ic.gc.ca/~cert/daily/radio_u_e.html
The BC250D and BC785D completed the certification process
on 2003/02/06 (Last Thursday) I think thats what "completion date"
means.
No sign of the digital card BCi25d in the list.

Blah blah blah... ie standard canned government response. Lets face
it. The Government doesn't want many people monitoring the new
system, so they will never "accept" the radio or card for use in
Canada. Simple.

So does this mean that the scanner radios can now be sold in Canada, and as
far as the digital card they still have not made any decision yet ????

I just went to the Radioworld internet site and they are selling the digital scanners in Canada, but you need to get a TAC license first http://www.radioworld.ca/swscan/swsc.php

I had the opportunity to play with a digital radio last night (not some
scanner, the real mccoy). Very nice... although I am still convinced
that analog still hasn't outlived its usefulness.
There were a few issues that I feel that digital has that makes it a
concern over analog... but I have no desire to outdo anyone or be the
'first on the block' kinda thing..... digital can wait.

Here in the London area, 154.070 is Middlesex County TAC2... it's used
fairly often and tested at least weekly.... City fire usually does patch
tests from their 800mhz system onto 154.370, 154.070 (and they typically
call this the OFM channel) and 154.725.

Better yet has anyone received one? Also any information on what the

This digital scanner stuff seem very grey to me.
