Subject: Opto Scout
I just received my Opto Scout frequency counter and have tried to get it to look onto some frequencies, this is what is happening, is it working right. I put the Scout right next to my cordless phone and turned the phone on, it's a 900 mhz phone and the scout does not lock onto the frequency and show it, also I did the same test with my Cell Phone and again I can't get the scout to register the frequency. Also I went to the drive thru windows at The Doughnut Dinner, Wendy's, and Mc Donald's and the scout did not find any of these frequencies. Is there something wrong with this scout or is this typical for the Scout to work this poorly. Also I tried several different antennas and no such lock. I tried hooking my outside antenna to the Scout and it only locks onto frequencies in the 95-mhz band ???. The only other thing I can think of the Scouts batteries were not fully charged.
Steve

I heard that there was some sort of industrial accident in the area but not
sure it's related.

Then unless the phone is transmitting (analog) in the 825mhz band, it won't lock on. Forget trying to lock onto the digital transmissions on the other band. As for the 900 mhz phone, it might be eithe digital, or spread spectrum, or too low power for the scout to work. I have a Scout40 and it locks reliably on the 825mhz analog chatting when the phone is idle, and also when it is used in the analog mode. As for antennas, try a 15-174 mobile antenna in your car. Unless you are near a powelful FM broadcast station, this will work reliably. I isually don't use the 1" stubby antenna that comes with it unless I expect to be very near a transmitter. If this is as good as the frequency counter is going to work then it's not worth the $ 700.00 dollars it costs. Steve ----- Original Message ----- > Well of course get the batteries charged first. The fast-food place radios are extremely low powered. I doubt you'd get a reading even if you were right next to the antenna. The counters themselves do act a little screwy when the batteries are low. -- Michael Fenech Toronto, Ontario ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Your use of Yahoo!
