There's some maintenance happening on the local OPP tower today. An announcement on the provincial common channel advised units to use "I TAC 8".
Any ideas on what that is? Freq or TG would be nice to know.

Well, the new OPP talkgroups are called "One OPS 41", 1OPS33, etc...
So, I'd assume 1TAC8 is just a tactical channel, maybe simplex?

Well folks...I've never heard this one before.
London declaring a "10-3 10-3 all units attention 10-3 until further notice on the authority of comm. SGt. someone" then the air was quiet for a good 5 or 8 minutes, then a male voice of the Com SGT. came on and announced "This is London com centre to all Huron/Perth, Grey/Bruce, and northern Wellington units. Do to the inclimate weather, all units are to be removed from the roads as soon as possible. Do to the inclimate weather, and no sign of relief in the foreseeable future we have decided that it is in the best interest of our personnel and the safety of the public that no vehicles what so ever be traveling in these treacherous conditions! I would like to say that the com centre will still be taking and processing calls, but only those calls which are deemed to be of a severe or urgent nature will be processed at this time. I would like to repeat that all units should be removed from the roads as soon as possible there have already been numerous accidents, and we do not need any more! As well, all call
s will still be answered but only those of an urgent nature will be processed until further notice! To the units who are trying to reach London, please bear with us and exercise patients, as the centre has been flooded with calls and we are stretching our resources to the fullest extent. Thank you very much. London clear at 14:27"
I found it very strange that the same message was broadcast not only over the various local TG's, but also on Sim11 and Pcom!

Not surprising. A cruiser has been rear ended near Stayner while investigating an accident. They've got at least seven vehicles involved including a tractor trailer and tow truck.
In another incident, a fire truck from Creemore is in the ditch and awaiting a heavy tow.
411.3125 seems to be broadcasting all Huronia and Collingwood OPP calls in analog mode.

Downtown Toronto seems to have been spared the worst of it.
Just rain - it was too warm I suppose to freeze, but I worked
overnights and listened to TPD most of the night and didn't hear
anything too serious. Lots of flooding, and a few power outages, but
nothing serious.
TTC Transit Control was also having some trouble with buses making it
up some hills in the north end - made for some interesting listening.
Its sideways snowing now, but its starting to subside. The rain got rid
of a lot of the snowdrifts (!!)

If the cruiser was a Crown Vic it could have blown up. Its a Ford
thing. But that is not our topic. I can see that WeddeRadio was on
target this time, with the exception of the test tone not activated.

Hey folks,
I'm from south of the border, in Minnesota. This summer I'll be
taking my family to Thunder Bay and other spots in northern Ontario.
I will be taking my scanner with me. What I'm wondering is, are there
any laws pertaining to scanner use in a vehicle and if so, what are
they? I've searched the net and this news group, but no luck.
Here in Minnesota, you can't carry a scanner in a car unless you're an
off duty officer, have a permit from the proper authorities, or have
an amateur radio license. This is was prompted me to get my ham
license down recently.
Thanks,
Pat Lehnherr

Basically, you can have a whole carload of scanners running in your car
as long as it doesn't obstruct the view out of your windshield :-)
The law says that you cannot repeat anything that you hear, and cannot
use the information heard for personal gain.
You may find the odd copper who doesn't like being listened to, and may
try to make you think that you've done something wrong in doing
so........ he's wrong.
That's about it.... unless of course you're listening to digital
signals, but I think the jury's still out on that one.
Enjoy your stay in Ontario!

Hey there Pat..
Nope, You're good. Ontario has no such laws against scanners in
automobiles. If you do end up heading west into Manitoba, be aware that
there are regulations against it.

We're being blasted now with a blizzard. I think it was better last night with the ice save for the power outage.
I never heard a peep on the Barrie City system last night from the emergency dispatch and I found that odd. I thought that Barrie Hydro would have been on that system however TAFL still shows their older VHF freq's. It also shows 952.66875 and 928.66875. Would these be SCADA or for paging?

If it's a continuous signal, or a signal that repeats itself at a regular frequency, it's probably SCADA. If it's sporatic transmissions, it's probably paging.
Can you record and upload a sample of it? Or sent it to me mike@warpzone.ca and I'll take a peek for you.
