In 1998 I was on a project in the arctic where the helicopter was using MSAT,
worked pretty good if you were straight and level but the antenna often couldn't
keep pointed quick enough on a tight turn. Beat the crap out of the HF radio
for convince but maybe not costs.

I'm not familiar with the BC 200XLT, but I recall that it was quite
easy on the PRO-2004. I made the mod years ago. If I recall
correctly, there is already a test point at the place you need to tap.
There is lots of room inside the case to work and it was easy to find a
place on the back of the case to drill a hole and put a jack. A quick
search of the net will turn up the specifics.

Whether or not you need a data slicer depends what you want to do. If
you want to use Trunker or some of the pager decoding software then you
will need to either purchase or build a data slicer. If you have any
electronics experience it's a pretty simple project.

Did anyone get the alert test from Environment Canada. I waited till
1220 yet nothing had been recieved. Just to test the automatic start
up on some equipment.

While we are all able to monitor TTC comms on our radio's the fact remains that TTC property is 'private' property even though the public can access it. If you don't have a ticket, token or $2.25 cash in hand and are going somewhere( or have other reason or business to be there) they have every right to turf you from their domain.
Think of it as you allowing a snow machine trail to cross your property. It's still your property and if someone is there for reasons other than those which you have allowed you have the right to investigate and if necessary ask them to move along. That would be for your safety and security as well as for those which you have permitted to access it.
We've had TTC discussions here before and I think it was pointed out then that there is a group specific to the TTC. Perhaps that would be the place to consider further discussion. If I can find it I might even join it myself just to see how others feel about the Commissions concern in this regard.
As for how long the TTC has had this disposition, like I posted before it goes way back and I doubt if any 9/11 stuff has done anything but make it more prevalent.

Ted,
Nope, AM, FM, and WFM only. I suppose that means no Mil Air on HF?

Hi all...I am wondering if there is a group designated to scanning aircraft frequencies in Ontario? I have a bunch of frequencies that I got from the site that was posted here yesterday. I really enjoy listening to the frequencies which are used by pilots requesting and giving weather information and such.

Interesting...my WX receiver didn't go off in the Ottawa
area either today. I was expecting to arrive home to a loud
warbling...not.

  You're leaning?

I've done the PRO-2004 mod by soldering a shielded cable
directly to the IF chip, then to an RCA jack on the back panel.
Like Mike says, lots of room. Advise if you want more details.

That's odd. My WX receiver at home is not flashing. Should we assume
that budget cuts have taken that out as well? Its bad enough there
are no forseable improvements to WeddeRadio Canada like more
transmitters, SAME, and other neat stuff found in the NOAA's National
Weather Service WeaTHer Radio .
We can dream. But only hope we don't have anything that goes really
wrong, weather wise....wishfull as that sounds.

You might receive it but you wont be able to understand the duck talk. Kenwood
has a wideband handheld transceiver that does ssb.
