Hello,
When we meet in Bryans place last week, a gentleman was showing us a
demo of software that worked with train switching system. I am can't
remember the name of this package. Sorry, I did not commit the name
to memory because I did not anticipate the relative ease to build a
decimator tap and data slicer.

Thanks
Chris

ATCS Monitor for Windows. Go to http://www.atcsmon.com. YOu also need, in order to graphically display the track maps, you need the TrainDispatcher 2 railway simulator, which is available at http://www.signalcc.com

And its actually 'discriminator tap', although if you don't know what you are doing it could very well be a decimator tap (grin)

The gentleman you were talking to is Paul Cordingley - he's the local expert on all things rail.

You don't need the trackbuilder unless you are building layouts.

I've used Pauls's layouts with atcsmon without trackbuilder.

I didn't mention anything about Trackbuilder. I said you needed Train Dispatcher 2.

Nope don't need that either. Like i said, I've used Pauls layouts with only the dispatcher display on atcsmon.

I listen to halton regularly as I live out
here...mostly the oakville system. Halton's system is
split into 3 separate systems
(oakville/burlington/milton). As Eric says, you have
to put only ONE of these sysems in the scanner bank by
itself. Its an EDACS system so You also have to enter
the frequencies in exact order (its called LCN or
logical channel numbering...) otherwise it will not
work properly. Also, I've noticed their coverage can
be poor in some areas so that may also be your
problem...let me know if you have trouble I can help
(Im using the BC245 portable)...

I am going to buy a new scanner and was wondering if I can get some feed back from you.

I can buy the Bearcat BC245XLT FOR $ 449.00 Canadian Funds at Durham Radio , I'm only interested in scanners I can buy in Canada and in Canadian Funds, I'm looking for a scanner that will trunktrack all the trunking systems, has a CTCSS Board, can be hooked up to my computer, has good search features, can lock out frequencies in the search mode, can support ID Tags and so on.
Any Ideas
Steve

Well, the 245 will do all that, except CTCSS and alphatags.

You might want to go for something higher. The 245's barebones as you can get and still get trunking.

Or you could go for a Motorola MTX8000 (grin)

Thanks for the info! I've been experiencing similar problems and
thought by programming and tracking all towers it would help things.
I'll know enough now to listen to only one of them!

One thing that is odd is I keep seeing AFS talkgroup 15-151 popping
up while performing an ID search (I own the BC245XLT as well). Is
this some kind of default talkgroup? It almost sounds like HPD comms.

Just to make it clear, programming only 1 of the 3 groups on the Halton
system will *not* allow you to hear the entire Region. PD often simulcasts,
Burlington & Oakville Fire sometimes simulcast, but the North rarely appears
on the 2 or 3 district groups.

Hello,
I have been told that the Pryme SPM-1100 Speaker/Microphone will work with a scanner as a speaker if you just saw off the microphone plug, and just plug in the speaker plug. Can anyone confirm this info? The link is to a pic of the spm-1100

Hi, that AFS talkgroup 15-151 is a patch group. that particular one is
usually hrpd but sometimes burlington fire. Burlington fire also uses 15-152
for dispatch. HRPD uses patches in the 15-14* and 15-15* ranges. You should
load all the 15-14* and 15-15* in your rad - at any given time they (hrpd)
can switch from regular 01-0** groups to the patches. Also, check on
trunkedradio.net for a halton database on other emerg. type talkgroups.
Hope that helps. Chuck.

It won't trunktrack VHF and has no capability for digital voice.

A BC245 is about $200us so even with shipping etc. it much less than the ones in
sold in Canada. The Pro 95 is currently $250us (they were $150 before
Christmas).

In the manual of the pro 95 it states on pg 21 that it will not program mot
or edacs in vhf, just mot in uhf lo (406 - 512 MHz).
