Just wanted to pass along a very interesting radar detector test/roundup
that I came across... And according to it, there are already a few models
of detector that the Specter RDD can't (currently) detect.

I own a trunk tracker II. I programmed the Halton police frequencies
and searched for group id. I then programmed the id's I found. I'm
still having difficulty listening to halton. Does anyone know were I
can get all the id number? Or maybe I didn't program my scanner
properly. Help!!!
Ben.

Interesting to note..
I was pulled over last summer near London by an OPP. He demanded I give him my radar detector. Obviously, I was like "WTF?" Anyway, it turns out my ham rig (RadioShack HTX242) emitted an IF frequency that triggered their detector detector.
It took a lot of talking and demonstrating, but he let me on my way.
Which begs the question...if I had that AND the detector, then proved to him the radio set it off.... :)

Thanks Alot,

Subject: Re: Re: Radar Detecters
Although a radar detector (receiver) CAN emit significant energy at the intermediate frequency, it is usually it's Local Oscillator that 'leaks' enough energy out of it's own antenna (which, by the way, is directional and is pointed right ahead at
the police car) to be easily detected. This has been the traditional detection method, and works very well.
For many years, radar detectors were designed according to a simple 'rule of thumb' that dictated that an IF should be about 10-20% of the desired frequency to be received. That in turn dictated the LO frequency.
The manufacturers of the VG-2 'detector-detector', thus knew what frequency(s) to look for with their unit! Simple! The 'stealth' products that were initially successful deviated from the 10-20% design philosophy, thus defeating the VG-2, which
would be searching for the wrong frequencies.
One way that could possibly be used to detect stealth detectors would be to have a fast frequency-agile LO in the police unit that could search for any suspected violator LO frequency in a matter of a second or two. This agile LO could be
programmed to ignore ranges used by, for example, cellular telephone services, microwave relay towers, etc. Additionally, the receiver in which this LO was installed could be programmed to look for a rapid increase in signal strength as a vehicle
approached. The programming could be extended to detect the doppler effect of a violator suddenly braking if he sees a police car or police officer ahead.
So what we have here is a guess at the technology that Mike might have encountered. No doubt the officer had not been educated about ham radios. Perhaps the unit was not programmed to take amateur frequency assignments into account. Perhaps it's
not as sophisticated as I imagine, and
Check out the web site Brad Smith provided. The Spectre manufacturer states they will not discuss the technology involved with other than law enforcement officials. However, please take note that everything I have speculated about in this post
incorporates technology we are already familiar with. eg, high scan speeds, programmable search ranges, military ECM equipment, inexpensive consumer microwave equipment (satellite receivers&antennas)
This has turned out to be a long answer to a short question. It is a bit off topic for scanning, but there are a lot of related links. Feedback welcome.
Arthur
PS: Thanks to Chris Fortner for referring us to a very informative web site. Chris, I read it through after writing the above. There's no more to add!

Okay, I did some investigating ... looks like these below are some that you can try. Someone else closer to the area might be able to help, I've never programmed my scanner for that area.
Fire 164.6850 Harvey Township
Fire 169.5450 Harvey Township
One of these two for the local ambulance ... someone else might be able to help with which frequency would dispatch the buckhorn area.
Ambulance 149.1700 Lindsay CACC
Ambulance 151.9100 Lindsay CACC
There is no Peterborough CACC, so I'm not sure about this one.... but asking my girlfriend it would either be the Peterborough unit or the Bobcaygeon unit that would respond (it's almost equal distance).
Ambulance 149.8450 118.8 Hz Peterborough CACC
One of these probably for police (OPP)...
Police 143.0100 F1 Lakefield
Police 139.8000 F2 Lakefield Simplex
