Looks like it won't VHF trunktrack especially if its patterned after the Pro95.

Michael, your comment seems borne out by the fact that LCN 6 has not shown
up. However, I have detected LCN 0-5, 7, & 16.

I have run my analysis software through 5x10.6 cycles
Control has not changed from 857.8375
The system seems to contain 2 Groups, 0 & 1.
Both share the common control channel.

Group 0 Control 857.8375
LCN 0 3 5 7
TG 0111 0119 0191
(police system ?)

Group 1 Control 857.8375
LCN 1 2 3 4 5 16
TG none detected
(future fire system ?)

Is any of the above useful?

Can you explain further? How are you hearing what appears to be two
separate systems on the same control channel?

What analysis software are you using?

Using the Trunking Analyzer from Scanstar Deluxe (Signal Intelligence) set to
look at the control channel.
The only other EDACS system I can look at for comparison is the KW system.
The software reports valid results on that one as expected.
My only other explanation is that the Brantford system is still being
configured and indeed, may not be considered a valid subject for analysis
with this software.
I think I should set up Trunker and see what it reports.
In any event, this system (digital) will not be able to be monitored in the
clear.
Not much point in continuing except as a matter of interest.
Any suggestions?

Best bet is trunker but as you say, if everybody goes digital then there's
not much to listen to.
Any hints that Public Works etc will be switching over?

No Steve. The only info I have so far is on the PD/FD useage. I doubt the City
would wish to spend that extra money in the near future, unless there is a serious
concern with the utility/age of the present Pub Works radios. There might be, but I
have heard nothing so far. I will check out your question next week.
Certainly the PD system has been a problem of late. What is interesting is that
only 5 channels have been noted in the newspaper report, but typically the FD needs
a few extra ones for Fireground comms. I think we will see the system expand when
they come on board, in the next month as reported.
Yes, the interesting comms are disappearing as we witness the conversion to
digital. I had occasion to spend some time yesterday in the cab of a towtruck. I
was amazed to see the driver using a multichannel digital phone/2-way radio for his
business comms, a conventional digital cell phone for his personal comms, an an MDT
for precise details of each of his daily callouts (location, vehicle descript,
reason for call, responsible party, time, etc.)
In fact he was able to run the towing operation of the company from the truck as
his own dispatcher, which he did with considerable skill! No office necessary!
No much fun to monitor, but amazing to see in action!

Rich's StrongSignals site has a seemingly credible report about GRE & Radio
Shack working on a digital scanner that - if the story is accurate - may well
give Uniden some really BIG competition. Will do 9600 baud, and no extra "APCO
card" needed.

This was posted here a few days ago.
But you're right about it giving Uniden a run for their money. Seriously though, I've never been a fan of GRE's scanners. A little too boxy for my tastes.

If you decide to upgrade to LMR 400 I just received another several hundred feet of it. It's new, never used end of the roll and most lengths are about 40-60 feet with some around 100 feet. One dollar/foot, that's about half price. I don't think it will last until spring although I may get more by then.

I will be putting my scanner antenna outside this spring and was wondering if I can get some info on this subject. I have 50 FT of rgu8 or rg8 coaxial cable and I have 100 FT of rgu58 coaxial cable, can I run the rgu8 thick coaxial cable from my antenna and then connect the rgu58 coaxial cable to finish the run to the house or will I cause a problem with to much cable signal loose or will it cause some other problems with receiving signals on my scanner ?? I would like too use this cable instead of buying new coaxial cable. ???

Form factors aside, I don't like the GRE operating "paradigm" much
on the PRO-92, versus Uniden's. If this new radio is to useful in
these parts, let's hope (and suggest to GRE) that unlike the
PRO-95, it should work on VHF Motorola systems.

I'll keep you in mind, the first thing I want to do is measure out just how
much I'm going to need for the run from the antenna to the scanner and see
if I can use either of my coaxial and not have to run two different lengths.

On that site, go to the TRS Database (you need to register first)
and look up Ontario systems, or search on Motorola system IDs 782d
 and 822f.

hi
Should be 163.625 Border patrol,Buffalo area.
Lots of reference to Nextel use, but sometimes when conducting
operations, they use this
I found that it helped when I used an outdoor antenna, although some
routine stuff, like check-ins can be copied from Oshawa O.K. with just
my back of set antenna.
Also check 261.900, 340.800, and 157.075, and some other U.S. Coast
grd. freqs for joint operations, between agencies.
165.2400 (165.2375) can be heard with lots of license checks (US
Customs) Also lots of encrypted comms as well, not like the good old
days :)
163.675 border patrol Niagara Falls -less frequently heard
Some other good channels for bulletins, and such, are:
453.525
New York State Thruway Police, 154.755 Niagara County Sheriff,
and 155.505 NYSP dispatch.
