Hello all,
I had some clear sky, so I tried some galaxies last night to test my new
remote drive electronics (25 ft. extension). I initially tried putting the
scope on my roof deck, but it seemed like the wires acted like antennas and
picked up all the EMF in the neighborhood giving lots of random -and-
herringbone noise. So, this was taken from ground level, all else the same,
but a fraction of the noise! I could really use some hints on line
filtering capacitor values ;-)
C114HD prime focus, 1004x cooled to 0C, 75% brightness, 100% contrast.
Moon had just set; sea level San Diego location.
8x8 sec
8x16 sec
50x24 sec <polar alignment limited :-( >
I tried iMerge for the first time, and was impressed by the function and
obvious effort expended, Jon. Oddly, I could use 40+ frames of the 64 in
the AVI in one project, but if I selected any of frames 4-15 the program
crawled and preview stopped. They could be stacked separately... I then
merged the 2 results.
(Jon, I could get you the file if you'd like... other files worked fine.)
Lots of Photoshop levels tweaking, and final 80% unsharp w/6 pixel radius.
I also gave the 3 layers the following opacities:
8 sec - 14% - top
16 sec - 23% - middle
24 sec - 100% - background
I made a 24 sec. flat but didn't use it for this try. Results are still
nice and I expect better with flat use later.
