Hi Robin,

That sounds like a useful feature!

What I typically do is to scan in a zig-zag pattern, but because of backlash
problems in my RA gear I only image on the 'zags' (or is it the 'zigs'?) - I
scan back as quickly as I can, let the gears catch up, then move down to
start the next line. I normally set iCatch imaging with a delay of 3 seconds
or so between exposures, which gives me time to nudge the scope when I hear
the relays click.

Between each image I shift perhaps a quarter of the FoV, maybe less, so that
most areas get plenty of coverage. In the LeoTrio image I took multiple
overlapping exposures of the galaxies, so there should be better s/n in
those areas. I should really have been disciplined and done the same thing
everywhere.

It occurs to me that doing a non-linear stretch on a composite image will
highlight areas where the noise level varies, because the local average
brightness will change. Maybe I need to add a feature to iMerge (or AVIDark)
so that the non-linear stretch can be done before the automatic brightness
adjustment, which should hopefully reduce some of the patchy appearance of a
stretched mosaic.

Jon.
