I have some surplus Adtran ISU128's that will run 128kbps sync
or 115.2kbps async over 18,000 feet of twisted pair.

You could use a PeeCee with soundcards at each end and run streaming
audion and control OR you could use a high pass filter at both
ends for the digital signaling and run the audio over the same
twisted pair.
