Not always the truth.
I had my discone mounted about 6 foot above my first story roof.
The reception was very good on the different bands I use that antenna for.
I began thinking, If I mounted the antenna on the roof of the second story,
I was bound to get even better reception.
WRONG.
Between the longer coax run and the antenna now being at a noisier level (I
guess) My reception took a dump. I hooked up a handheld receiver I have to a
short coax run (6 feet) On the roof to see if it was caused by the longer
coax run. I reception was still lousy. Of course, the longer coax run
contributed to the problem, But it looks like the level above my second
story in my neighborhood is a noise rich environment.
I moved the antenna back where it was and all was right with the world
again.
Of course, My wife sat there the whole time saying, "I told you to leave it
alone" :)
Moral of the story,
experiment, You may be surprised what works and what does not.
