[PCR-1000] New PCR 1000

Hi Folks,

I am new to the digital age and the list, I just got a Icom PCR 1000

receiver today. The serial cable was not with it.

I am able to use the receiver with the Icom software from the Icom site but

the Bonita software will not work. It gives an error that it cannot find a

PCR 1000.

I bought a RS 232 cable for it from Office Depot today.

Does anyone have any ideas?

If you received the radio with the Bonito Radiocom software, you should have also received a RS-232C 6-pin serial port cable (according to the website www.icomamerica.com) which should work. When I got mine, it had a RS-232 cable (DB9-DB9) and an adapter plug that connected between the radio's serial port and the RS-232 cable. If I didn't use the adapter, Radiocom 4 said it couldn't find the radio.
I have heard many people complain about the Bonito Radiocom software. I feel it's really not the greatest either. I have used ScanStar Sprectrum Explorer (nice but spendy), Bonito Radiocom 4, TalkPCR and the new Windows XP version of the ICOM software and I like the last two the best. Also, you don't need the adapter plug for TalkPCR and ICOM software.
The ICOM software is free, however TalkPCR and ScanStar is shareware. It's funny that ICOM doesn't mention TalkPCR on their website for 3rd party apps. Hmmmmm.
