Yes, I know what you mean but this is done because of the susceptible
nature to noise of the VHF/UHF beast and its propensity to pickup that
noise ! Also, the casing material must be assembled and sealed in such a
way also to help reduce noise leakage. The case **MUST** also be "WELL"
grounded to RF ground.

As a side note, if your DC ground (the ground for your antenna and for
lightening protection) is separate from your "rf" ground, then those 2
ground rods should be strapped together with 0 or 2 or 4 AWG stranded
wire. The thicker the better
(0 AWG is best because of the distance involved). Even if this is at
some length from each other. These two grounds should be considered
"Common" to each other and therefore should be at 0 vdc ground potential
to each other. What you are looking for is as close to 0 vdc between the
two grounds as possible. There should not be a voltage drop between
these two grounds. This can vary from season to season and hence the
reason for the "Kitty Litter" :). A small amount of DC resistance will
offer up a voltage drop and cause some value of noise.

I am not sure if where the placement of the rf amp in the antenna line
is crucial or critical (near the antenna head or near the receiver) or
not. RTFM I guess !! :)

There is something else to keep in mind. All "rf amps" will not only
amplify the intended signal but will also amplify the noise that comes
along with that signal.

Why can't Life be simpler?
