I had originally 'grounded' my radio through an extra lead to the frame of
the power strip which is in turn connected to AC 'neutral'. I don't think I
noticed any difference at the time, but I did feel a lot better as many
users have completely ungrounded radios (the power brick is a two wire
system only). My original concern was the potential for static buildup on
my then outside long wire antenna. I've also since added a static discharge
device to the antenna itself.. tied to earth ground where it enters the
house.
I've since switched the PCR1K's ground to the same RF ground I use for my
other radios. It goes to the same set of earth rods that the AC Neutral
(eventually) does, but it's a shorter path than the torturous AC wiring
route in the house.
Did I notice any diff? Again, not at the time. There's possibly another
factor in play here - the 'HALO' effect. That of having you believe that
your work has done some good or made some improvement when in fact none has
actually happened. What's probably needed is someone with a stand alone
spectrum analyzer and doing a more scientific measurement of the reception
using various grounding methods. For most of what I use the PCR1K to listen
to, I probably would not be able to discern any difference other than on
some 'weak signal' (and very weak at that) work.
