Hello Illana,
Many of my students have had this problem to. They want to dictate
"period" and end up getting "." instead. It's a word that they often say
Training doesnt seem to sort it. It's also very weird as they are
pretty much all on UK English vocab's, where you shouldnt find "period"
as it's American.
The only way I found round this was a simple custom command to "force"
dragon to type period.
Whack this into the command browser as a command called "period" under
advanced scripting.
Sub Main
SendDragonkeys "period"
End Sub
As it's a command, you'll need to pause before saying it to get it to
work reliably, but it's faster than correcting. Not the ideal solution
and one that should only be used in very specific circumstances, but it
works.
Cheers

N.b., only applicable to the relatively small number of Pro users, so
not likely to help Ilana!

what about a written spoken period/word period or a command "spell that
out" as there is for numbers ?

Chuck is right,
Use other methods first, as opposed to mine. Mine's a last resort when
all "traditional" method's fail. But if they do then mine will work.

Not So Dick Tracy -- I think Preferred users can use that solution as well,
as they can make dictation macros containing text including the word
"period." (imagine dictating the last phrase and having it all work out
correctly as intended... cool, yes?)

Ahhh Yesss..... that would conjure up some strange images.... hmm....
But, who is Diane Keaton, anyway...?
Bur - wasn't Throckmorton from the Great Gildersleeves? And was it not
Willard Waterman who played that character in the old radio show? Seems
like one of the great coincidences... Waterman playing the Water
Commissioner...? But, I am not all sure about this.
(No... Just kidding...of course, I KNOW who SHE is...)
Thanks for the fun. /// Richards ///

Yes -- but you can do the same result with a Preferred text macro. Just
make a macro called "period" and have it type "." and you are home free.
Preferred can do the same thing, with a slightly different method -- a
slightly different macro.
N'est ce pas?????? (smiling smugly until proven wrong, again...)

Liifeboy supplied a script macro -- but I believe Richards is suggesting a
Text and Graphics macro, plain text, with a name and the text "period".
One might want leading and trailing spaces. One problem with the macro
technique is that you might have a spacing problem depending on the
application, your options, and context.
