I keep hopin' DNS will produce a Dixie version -- so it will

"Y'all" as "Y'all", and "damyankee" as "damyankee."

Let's see...you top a fence with bob war to keep people out....and the

Please delete my address from future VG email.

Have enjoyed reading and seeing mail from active members, but voice system
just never worked well enough to be of much use.

Before you pull the plug definitively, won't you at least give yourself
a free helping of some of the best volunteer consultants in the
business?

We keep veering off into side issues because we don't get enough calls
for "meat and potato" SR problems like yours! For example, leading up
to the holiday season, we had a new user who was having excruciating
problems using DNS. Several weeks (months?) of exchanges revealed that
a defective PC was the source of the problems. But if the user hadn't
made the effort to discuss the problems, the resolution might never have
been found.

Give us a description of the SR product, your PC details and OS, your
audio input system (mike brand, USB or soundcard brand, etc.), and a
description of the problems you're having and what you've done and/or
been told to do. Might also mention why you're using SR -- e.g., injury
or disability, or desire to increase professional productivity, etc.

Bruce

The Chameleon telephone headsets work great with cordless phones. They require
the number 1103 cord. They actually worked quite well with speech recognition as
long as there is no background noise.

We have not run into that problem. However, I can certainly imagine there are
enough variables where this would be true.

We have tested several infrared wireless systems and they have been poor
performance. They have a very short range, they are subject to interference from
radio sources and even fluorescent lights, and they require a line of sight
meaning you cannot even turnaround and continued dictating.

Michael and I have spent several dozen hours the past year exploring what it
would take to manufacture a wireless microphone. I assure you it is not as
simple as you seem to believe.

I'm thinking of buying an 800 MHz g4 apple ibook. Here's the catch, as a writer with severe arthritis I need the best speech recognition performance I can get(spped more then accurcy). Is speech recognition a task where once you have a certain level of machine the performace improvments taper off or is it similar to gaming where it can eat up as much as you thrwat it. Would it make sense to to with a more powerrful computer.

I have been trying to make vr work for years. Last year I had a positive experience with ViaVoice 9. It made a lot of mistakes, but was better than my typing. I just bought DNS 8. Right out of the box with a Logitech USB headset I was and am blown away. I have better recognition in 5 minutes than with years of experience with anything else.

I have DNS 8 standard and ViaVoice personnel and both say that I need the top of the line to use a USB miKe and I have used one with both. why is this?

I only have 256 ram and can't wait until I upgrade so I can use DNS on the internet.

Dear Dana and all:

Thank you all very much for your help. I am now typing this into the dictation box and I will place a in my e-mail by clicking OK. This is not ideal but it beats not being able to use MSN mail at all.

I am sorry about the confusion regarding my Verizon mail. I can use any name I wish for my mail. It is only my sign in name to that account that is cryptic. Sometimes things get a little messed up my mind. Regarding what I said about using other e-mails; I was referring to other servers such Verizon e-mail and that Dragon works perfectly fine there. I have no idea why I cannot dictate into the main body of MSN mail. Someone suggested I should contact tech service for MSN e-mail. I will do that in a little bit.

On a side note, on Sunday I am scheduled to leave manchester New Hampshire by USA air and travel to Tampa. At the moment, we in new England, are experiencing the March from hell. I am sick of snow and we are currently, once again, in the middle of a snowstorm. I am hoping that some of you people who are really good with Dragon to cancel this lousy weather.

Thanks again. You can see how verbose I can be with voice recognition.

Regarding using the Dragon dictate box with E-bay try it again, but make sure that you put your curser in the E-bay box before you dictate and transfer. I had the same problem with MS mail and discovered that I had not placed my curser in the mail box before transfer.

Good Luck

I too tried Type it Talk it. Bad, bad, bad. Speaking of cheap software I bought DNS 8 standard for 80 and than Scansoft sent me a letter saying thank you for buying and offered me DNS for 50. These discounts so early after its release are disconcerting. Am I right to assume that sales are flat?

When I first tried vr it only worked for a few people. Perhaps new advertising explaining the vast improvements might get old customers to try again; maybe a limited free trial or similar thing.
