| Subject | (Dis-)allow accented upper case in French |
Microsoft Word allows users to choose whether, in French, uppercase
characters have accents or not. This feature can be found, for
example in MS Word 2000, under Tools, Options, Edit as "allow
accented uppercase in French".
Dragon NaturallySpeaking French (Versions 5.0 or XP, the currently
latest version), ALWAYS capitalizes accented characters. When
operating in multilingual environments, copying text that contains
uppercase French accented characters, via the clipboard, from
DragonPad to, for example, Microsoft Word results in these
characters "converting" to garbage (e.g. Arabic characters).
Since the common practice today is not to have accents on capital
letters in French, that is generally the preferred option. That's
also why Microsoft Word by default does NOT allow accented uppercase
in French, but leaves you the option to turn the possibility on, if
you really need it.
Unfortunately, Dragon NaturallySpeaking does just the opposite. It
accents all uppercase characters. And, at least as far as I can
tell, doesn't even leave you the option of turning this option off.
Does anyone out there know a workaround? Or, is there some hidden
option, e.g. some parameter that one can include in an ini-file, that
will get Dragon NaturallySpeaking NOT to accent, uppercase characters?
